We live here; some in the elegant old market town, full of good stone buildings and surprising little courts off the main roads, or in one of the surrounding villages. Most of us know a bit (some a great deal more) about Oundle’s history, so we take it for granted. Part of the OHS plan for the future is to make that history more widely known, whether by using the website, the town’s electronic noticeboards, posters or good old-fashioned word of mouth. “More widely known” includes taking it further afield, starting with the Northamptonshire Heritage Fair being held at the Chester House Estate on 27th April 2025. This event is always a good day out for local historians with a wide variety of interests covering some quite unexpected fields. 40 societies, including the OHS, have booked exhibition space, which will be under cover in the main complex. The Chester House Estate is a hugely important historic site in its own right and now houses the ARC, the County Archaeological Resource Centre. For the historian there will be enough to keep them involved all day and for non-historians in the family plenty else to do, see and explore. There will be also food, that essential part of a family day out. Entry is free, but sadly the food is not!
