hidden historic gems in northamptonshire

9/5/2025

Martin Izzard will highlight historic and natural gems in the county travelling from west to east. It will cover buildings and species of nature to capture the local flavour. He will end up around Lilford and the Oundle area. The talk is in memory of his dear friend David Hall (1938- 2021) who was renowned for his interest in Northamptonshire history and landscape archaeology. They travelled together down many country lanes searching for historic relics that David had identified for Martin to photograph. The result was an article they co-authored inNorthamptonshire Past & Present, 2020 (No.73).
Martin describes himself as “a proud county man, having spent His entire life in the county of Spires and Squires”. His family has been in the county since 1690 and he and his wife live in Newton Bromswold. He is a retired research scientist, a golfer, an author and photographer. He has a particular interest in natural history as well as local history.
